Hi, I’m Yazz

Author. Storyteller. Beautifully Wired.

I have lived many lives within this one.

Six weddings. Four husbands. Five children. An ashram in India I had absolutely no business booking. Forty-seven unfinished courses. Every business you can think of some of them twice. A diagnosis at 52 that made every single bit of it make sense.

I spent five decades not knowing why my brain worked the way it did. Why I fell fast and moved faster. Why I started everything and finished almost nothing. Why stillness felt like slow suffocation and novelty felt like oxygen.

At 52, sitting across from a psychiatrist, I finally got an answer.

ADHD. And OCPD.

That diagnosis made me look backwards at my entire life differently, the marriages, businesses, unfinished courses, impulsive decisions, spectacular adventures and all the different versions of myself I'd been along the way.

So, I wrote about it.

Beautifully Wired and Late to Know It became my first published book: a memoir about discovering the map to a brain I'd spent five decades navigating without one.

And Then I Started Making Things Up

Somewhere between writing my own story and holding my first published book in my hands, I realised I wasn't finished.

Except this time, I didn't want to write about myself.

I wanted to create women who didn't exist. Put them in places they'd never been. Give them secrets, complicated relationships, questionable decisions and lives that could unravel with the turn of a page.

These days, fiction is where you'll usually find me.

I'm currently writing If Only You Knew, a contemporary women's fiction/romance novel that begins with an Australian woman leaving the familiarity of home for New York City and discovering that anonymity can give a woman permission to become someone even she didn't know existed.

I write about women becoming. Desire. Identity. Reinvention. The things we hide. The choices we make when nobody knows who we are.

And occasionally, I make their lives spectacularly complicated because apparently, I enjoy causing problems for imaginary people.

From My Writing Desk

Most days, you'll find me somewhere between a manuscript, a ridiculous research rabbit hole and a cup of coffee I've forgotten to drink.

From My Writing Desk is where I share the bits between the books, what I'm writing, what I'm reading, characters I'm falling in love with, research discoveries, author life and the occasional beautifully wired detour.

It's also where you'll hear about new books first.

Come sit at the desk with me.

When I’m Not Writing

I live on the Gold Coast with my husband Chris, two of my children and Archie — my long-haired Mini Dachshund who does not identify as a dog and who slept through most of the writing of this book and Lua our mini me, adopted Red Cattle X Boxer. I have an impressive collection of cowboy boots, a washing machine nobody is allowed to touch, and a sunroom full of unopened art supplies.

I wouldn't change a single thing.
